This summer, I travelled to Denver. I debated for a while whether to fly or to drive. I wanted to stay in the area and hike some after a conference I was attending, so having my car would have been nice. In the end, I decided to cover the distance with a 3 hour flight rather than a 3 day drive. I just didn’t have the time to spend in the car. (I still got my hike in with the help of a rental.).
This fall we’re going to take a tour of the Book of Romans, and the same question presents itself–how to best cover this ground? We could fly over it, and touch on the famous passages, like Romans 8 (more than conquerers) or Romans 12 (living sacrifices), but that wouldn’t do it justice.
We could walk this ground, and take it verse by verse over a couple of years, but this might be a bit taxing, even for those of us who still have something resembling an attention span after living in our phone infested world!
So I’ve decided instead to take you on a 12-week drive. We will watch the landscape change from chapter to chapter and drink in the big themes of this important book–from sin’s pervasive power in our lives to God’s greater power to kill it and bring us to new life in Christ.
I’d like to encourage you to come along for the ride. Every Christian needs to wrestle with the Book of Romans at least once in their lives.
Be sure to pick up your free Romans scripture journal on Sunday and use it take notes in throughout the series. Remember that you can also keep up with the series on the church pulpit podcast:. Here’s where we’re headed:
