The Bible assumes that churches require leadership. But did you ever consider that God might be calling you to be one of those leaders? It’s possible that you’ve never thought of yourself as a leader, or you’ve just figured that other, long time members are in that role for life. It’s true that we have been blessed with some seasoned leaders, elders and deacons who have served us over the past decades. But healthy churches are also developing new leaders, because none of us has a permanent seat at the leadership table, myself included.
In the old days, our church’s approach to developing new leaders boiled down to a nominating committee representative getting you on the phone in what felt like a high-stakes sales call: will you serve on session or deacons? We need you! Thankfully we’ve moved away from those days, but even so, the challenge of developing new leaders remains. To that end, I would like to invite you to a class this fall, “Called to Lead.” Think of it as a time to reflect on your walk with the Lord and see if he’s calling you into leadership.
The class will be broadly focused—it’s for anyone wondering what church leadership looks like in our church. It’s for those beginning to consider if God is calling them into leadership. It’s also for current leaders to renew their sense of call, and to refocus their vision of what leadership looks like in the life of the church. We will meet Sunday mornings promptly at 9:30 and end at 10:15 a.m. The class will begin on Sunday, September 13th. Childcare will be provided!
